The California Department of Justice now accepts the instructor credential of NRA Personal Protection Outside the Home as meeting the requirements to apply for DOJ CCW Instructor. 

 

To be eligible to attend a Personal Protection Outside the Home Instructor course, a candidate must already be a certified Pistol and Personal Protection Inside the Home Instructor (PPIH) Instructor.

At the end of this PPOH Instructor course, we will administer the qualification shoot for the DOJ CCW Instructor credential and provide the necessary documentation.

 

​MANDATORY EQUIPMENT

• Handgun (9mm or .38 caliber or larger).  Full size or compact recommended. 

• 3 magazines minimum

• 400 rounds ammo  

• Strong-side, Outside the Waistband (OWB) belt holster.  We recommend Bladetech or Vedder holsters.

• Sturdy belt that fits your pants belt loops and holster snugly.

• Tactical style pants with cargo pockets for extra ammo.

• Closed toe shoes

• Eye protection

• Electronic hearing protection (must be amplified).  We recommend Howard Leight or Walkers.

• Brimmed hat

• Front opening cover garment that covers holstered handgun.  Should be of medium weight.

• Kneepads

• Notepad, pen and highlighter

• Laptop with charger

• Folding chair (optional)

• Sack Lunch 

• At least one additional alternative carry devices (i.e. purse, shoulder, appendix, IWB).

We will provide complimentary coffee, breakfast snacks and bottled water.

 

TRAINING SCHEDULE

Monday thru Thursday, June 2-5, 2025 – NRA Certified Personal Protection Outside the Home Basic AND Instructor – 8am to 6pm (Approximately) 

Prerequisites apply.  Candidates must have successfully completed both NRA Certified Pistol and Personal Protection Inside the Home Instructor and must have successfully completed BIT within the last 24 months.  We have Pistol and Personal Protection Inside the Home (PPIH) Instructor Series with BIT the week of May 19-23 and a Pistol Instructor 3 Day series May 5-7.
